Living with Cancer support group

2nd and 4th Tuesdays, July to September 2017

4:30-6:00 p.m. Upper Level Conference Room

Patients, families, and friends will find support and understanding as they cope with a cancer diagnosis and treatment. Each session includes an educational component as well as opportunity for group sharing and interaction. Sessions are free. No need to register. Click here for printable flyer.

July 11     Draw without Purpose: Research suggests that doodling can help to focus the mind, relax the body, and strengthen hand-eye coordination. Come try out guided doodling. No art experience needed: if you can draw lines, you can doodle! Materials provided. (Bethany Swope, Mind-Body Counselor).

July 25     Summer Skin Safety: Explore ways to enjoy sunshine and warmth while still protecting your skin. Learn how to check your skin for spots to show your healthcare provider. (Kacy Davis, Nurse Practitioner).

Aug 8       Detoxes, Cleanses & Cancer: Learn a safe and gentle approach to these programs. (Kristin Roos, Naturopathic Doctor).

Aug 22     Creative Expressions: Experience the benefits of creativity in the company of other cancer survivors and friends. No artistic experience necessary. (Karen Alkema, Mind-Body Counselor)

Sept 12    Healing Rhythms: Participate in a hand drumming circle, a group experience of learning, connecting, and building resilience through shared sound and rhythm. No musical background necessary. Equipment provided. (Nicole Williams, Founder of One Love Community Circle). Sept 26    Partners in Healing: Enhance wellness in yourself and the lives of people you love by using the gift of touch. Come to learn simple massage techniques that offer comfort and support health. (Pat Shoemaker, LCSW, Chaplain, Greencroft Communities)

Groups are held at Goshen Center for Cancer Care, and are facilitated by Mind-Body Counselors: Rita Gingrich, LCSW, Karen Alkema, LMHC, and Bethany Swope, LMFTA.
